About Me

Writing has always been more of a compulsion than a calling for me. Simply, I must write, even if those efforts are relegated to jotting down character sketches and snippets of dialogue in the middle of sleepless nights or while sitting at traffic lights during my considerable commute to and from my day job.

I began storytelling even before I could hold a pen, entertaining family and friends with intricately plotted stories and skits at family gatherings as a small child. (My rendition of The Three Bears is still the talk of the family. Of course, the fact that all the bears were running around naked might have something to do with the story’s continued popularity….) By the age of six, I was writing poetry and short stories and gearing up for my first novel manuscript, which I completed when I was fourteen. Many other such “practice” projects followed through the years and are currently taking up residence in a 75-gallon storage trunk in my upstairs hallway, anxiously awaiting revision or cannibalization for the good of other projects.

My need to write always has directed my life’s path, leading me to complete both a BA and an MA in English and to spend two years writing a masters thesis on short story author Katherine Mansfield, a transformative experience in many ways. Professionally, I have pursued opportunities that fed my hunger to immerse myself in the written word, first with a career in publishing and now in my current occupation as a researcher at a university here in the Midwest. However, as much as my studies and career have been enjoyable and rewarding, writing prose is my passion. I look forward to sharing that passion with all of my future readers.

I live in a smallish Midwestern town with my husband (variously referred to online as Webmaster or Handsome Hubby), two sons (henceforth known as Professor and Moose), and an aquarium full of ghost fish that Moose believes to be “sleeping.” (Swimming around all day is quite exhausting, didn’t you know? They’re some damned tired fish, let me tell you.)  When I’m not doing the paying job thing or the wife/mom/maid/chauffeur/pack mule thing you’ll find me curled up with my laptop and a strong cup of coffee busily and happily doing the writer thing.

    Dear Friend,
I was thinking about you today and thinking, What a horrifically long time it has been since I talked to you!  Then I remembered I had your link on my blog and clicked on it, and WHOA.  Do you for real have an AGENT?  Good golly, I’m so proud of you, and so proud to know you.  I hope everything is going well with that and proceeding along at a good clip!
I will hopefully be in touch via email soon, but couldn’t resist leaving you a comment here.  (Do you have the Midas touch?  If so, reach out and touch me for I, too, have begun a novel…)
    With much love,
    Becky
